The Day of the A380

As a celebration of Birmingham Airport’s 70th Anniversary and for the official opening of the new International Pier, two Airbus A380’s visited the airport during September 2009 with proto-type (F-WWOW) making a fly-past on Saturday 5th and the first ever landing of the type with Emirates (A6-EDE) on Wednesday 9th. The airport also made this day “Retro day” which attracted many vintage aircraft visitors along with two retro jets from both KLM and Lufthansa.

All the photos from the event can be viewed below. A massive thank you to Birmingham Airport for making this day possible!

Emirates flight EK039 (A6-EDE) arrives on Runway 33 from Dubai at around 12:10 with 339 passengers on-board, the first ever landing of the type at Birmingham. This also being the first commercial flight of an A380 outside of London Heathrow in the UK. Thousands of spectators were at the airfield to mark her arrival. The weather could not of been any better than it was with glorious sunshine…
