As a celebration of Birmingham International Airport's 70th Anniversary and for the official opening of the new International Pier, two Airbus A380's visited the airport during September 2009 with proto-type (F-WWOW) making a fly-past on Saturday 5th and the first ever landing of the type with Emirates (A6-EDE) on Wednesday 9th. The airport also made this day "Retro day" which attracted many vintage aircraft visitors along with two retro jets from both KLM and Lufthansa.
