Accessing the Airport

Before you travel, remember that Birmingham Airport is now a one terminal facility.


Travelling by car?
Birmingham Airport is on the A45 Coventry Road, 8 miles (12km) east of Birmingham City Centre and close to junction 6 of the M42. There are direct connections to the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The Airport is sign-posted from motorways and major roads and is marked on all good quality road maps. Also the M6 Toll provides Fast, Effective, Relief from the M6. The motorway is a 27 mile, dual 3-lane carriageway between Junctions 4 and 11 of the M6, exit at junction T1 for the airport.
If you are using a sat-nav system, the postcode of the airport is B26 3QJ.

Car Parking...
The airport has a range of convenient on-site car parks, all within easy walking distance of the terminal buildings. Long Stay 1 and 2 offer competitive rates for holiday parking. Short/Medium Stay 1,2 and 3 offer secure, covered car-parking in close proximity to the terminals.

Dropping off passengers?
The 'Drop & Go' facility offers a convenient area for drivers to drop-off departing passengers. Discounted pre-booked car-parking rates are available. Prices in the 'Drop and Go' start at £1 for 15 minutes, view the link below for further information and prices.

Travelling by train?
Rail services operate regularly from Birmingham International to Birmingham city centre (New Street), with departures approximately every 10 minutes. The journey takes 10 minutes on a direct train. Services to central London operate throughout the day, with the fastest nonstop services in the morning taking 70 minutes from Birmingham International to Euston.

Travelling using Air-Rail?
The free Air-Rail will whisk you from Birmingham International Station to the passenger terminal in just 90 seconds. These depart to/from the station every 2 minutes. It also provides a fast link between the airport and NEC.

The Air-Rail link operates to/from the terminal on the first floor next to departures adjacent to the food village.
Running hours 05:00 - 02:30.


Travelling by bus?
A number of bus routes operate to the airport including the main 900 service (connecting Birmingham and Coventry via the airport) and the 966 (connecting Erdington and Solihull). Bus stops can be found directly opposite the terminal building.

Travelling by coach?
Frequent coach services to the airport are operated by a number of coach companies. Coach stops can be found directly opposite the terminal building.

Travelling by taxi?
Black cabs operate a 24-hour service from directly outside the arrivals area of the terminal buildings. Each taxi can carry up to five passengers (some can carry six), with luggage and are able to take wheelchairs.

For journeys in Birmingham and Solihull metered zone fares will be displayed during the trip. All black cabs accept major credit cards, provide receipts and are the only cabs licenced to operate from the airport without prior booking.

Travelling by bike?
Birmingham Airport is working with local authorities and sustainable transport charity, Sustrans, to develop safer and more pleasant routes for cyclists to the Airport. A two mile long segregated route is available over the A45 and continuing to the south, linking with quiet routes to Solihull and Coventry.

Cycle parking
Free short term cycle parking is available outside the terminal building.

Getting to the NEC (National Exhibition Centre)
Birmingham Airport is adjacent to the NEC, the UK’s premier exhibition venue. From the first floor of the terminal building (next to departures) take Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International rail station. Then follow the directional signs to the NEC. It is approximately a 5 minute walk to the main exhibition halls via a covered walkway.
