Emirates A380 visit         |         Fly-past of the A380 prototype         |         "Retro Day" movements     Video 4 - Vintage aircraft & fly-in by YouTube user: EGBW As a celebration of Birmingham Airport's 70th Anniversary and for the official opening of the new International Pier, two Airbus A380's visited the airport during September 2009 with proto-type (F-WWOW) making a fly-past on Saturday 5th and the first ever landing of the type with Emirates (A6-EDE) on Wednesday 9th. The airport also made this day "Retro day" which attracted many vintage aircraft visitors along with two retro jets from both KLM and Lufthansa. All the photos from the event can be viewed below. A massive thank you to Birmingham Airport for making this day possible! Along with the Emirates A380, came the "fly in" of 19 vintage aircraft organised by the airport and Signature Flight Support, at a special and appropriate price of "£3.80" per visitor! This included the special visitor of the Classic Flight Dragon Rapide - this aircraft type operated the very first passenger flight from Elmdon back in 1939! It is seen here parked alongside the Airbus. Note the fire extinguisher on stand-by!... The Classic Flight Dragon Rapide operated a series of special flights... Lufthansa kindly agreed to send in its retro jet, Airbus A321 D-AIRX which operated one of its flights to Frankfurt... Retro jet landing on Runway 33... KLM also agreed to send in its retro jet, Boeing 737-800(W) PH-BXA on one of its services to Amsterdam... Retro jet preparing itself for its departure... The airport saw many vintage aircraft visitors, including the Piper Super Cub... The Piper Cub... The De Havilland Chipmunk... Another Piper Cub... The De Havilland Hornett Moth... Auster 5...
