Terminal information

Terminal 2 operators - Air France (Brit Air & CityJet), British Airways Cityflyer,
Flybe, KLM, Ryanair and Sun-Air. All other airlines operate from Terminal 1.

T1 - Terminal 1
The oldest of the two terminals has under gone massive refurbishments and improvements and now has all the facilities needed for it to become a busy international airport. All passengers before they fly have the opportunity to look round the wide range of shops including WHSmiths, Claire's & Boots and a selection of bars and restaurants to choose from which includes Frankie & Bennies, Wetherspoons and Yates.

There are many other facilities that passengers can enjoy before flying, the airport has great executive lounges that are well-equipped and passengers can enjoy a most efficient and friendly service designed to cater for the differing needs of travellers passing through the airport.

After an extension to the main departure lounge, both Alpha Retail (Duty Free) and Dixons have new and enlarged stores along with WHSmiths. The lounge has been brightened up with marble floors and ceiling lighting making it look spacious, pleasant and bright. For those passengers that rely on the internet & Broadband with their lap-tops, the airport now offers T-Mobile Wi-Fi through out the terminal.

T2 - Terminal 2
Formely known as the Eurohub, which opened in 1991, is one of the most technically-advanced airline terminals in the world and is one of the few in Europe developed and financed by a public and private joint venture. Laing was not only the designer and builder but, together with Birmingham City Council, British Airways, National Car Parks (NCP) and Forte, was also a significant shareholder in the US$ 41 million scheme.

The departure lounge area along with the check-in area has recently been redesigned to create a much more opened environment with a selection of bars and restaurants to choose from including Wetherspoons and Starbucks. The terminal also offers all the usual facilities, including shops, car hire desks and refreshment areas. The new Executive lounge is the Terminal 2's premier feature; further promoting Birmingham as the most popular Business Traveller airport in the country. T-Mobile Wi-Fi is available to all passengers through out the terminal building.

Despite Birmingham Airport trying to attract more business airlines (ie. KLM) to use this terminal. The terminal has recently turned into a low-cost terminal with Flybe (who replaced British Airways and BA Connect) and Ryanair (who have recently opened up a base) pushing out 3 business airlines - Brussels Airlines, Eastern Airways and Swiss Air Lines.

Terminal and site developments
A number of development projects were completed last year with the result that the following additional facilities are now available -

At Terminal 1, the second phase of the extension of the international departure lounge is now open and this has considerably increased the range of catering and retail facilities that are available to departing passengers.

At Terminal 2, the refurbishment of both the departure lounge and the baggage reclaim area has been completed.

In addition the passenger Security Search areas, at the entry points to the departure lounges in both Terminals, have been expanded to add new lanes/increase capacity to take account of the new procedures in place following recent security alerts.

In the same context work is currently in progress to improve the traffic flow round the terminal site following the closure of frontages following the terrorist attack at Glasgow Airport last year.

Work on a new hotel, which actually operate in two seperate units branded Etap and Ibis, continues with completion due in Autumn 2008.

Meanwhile on the airfield work has started on a major project to refurbish and strenghten the remaining "original" taxiways that are now reaching the end of their natural life having been in place now for over 25 years. To minimise disruption it is planned that most of this work will be done overnight, between 22:30 and 06:00, although there will be a number of weekend taxiway closures.

At the same time as the above work is in progress the 70's stands are going to be extended northwards to allow the centreline of Taxiway Victor (V) to be repositioned 5 metres to the north of its existing line in due course. This will allow "Code E" stands to be provided on the northside of the new International Pier work on which should also start on later in the Summer.

The short or crosswind runway, 06/24, which has not been used for a number of years, was formerly decommissioned at 31st December 2007 although it remains in use as a taxiway.
